Between 1933 and 1939, tens of thousands of Europeans fled to safer countries. As many as 80,000 reached England, mostly Jews. Their needs were provided by various charities and agencies. They were welcomed with mixed feelings. True, there was sympathy for the refugees but 'foreigners' always create some resentment and these people spoke the language of the German enemy! 
By the summer of 1939, the British government had created a system for detaining and housing categories of people - those who might give comfort to the enemy and those who were refugees.  Tribunals were set up to categorize enemy aliens as 'A' - those to be interned, 'B' - those to be somewhat restricted, and 'C' - those to remain free for the time being. 
In May 1940, fearing an enemy invasion from Europe, it was decided to intern ALL aliens - men women and children. Camps were created in England proper.  But then many were deported to a variety of British islands, colonies, and members of the Commonwealth.  Such destinations included: The Isle of Man, The Isle of Wight, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Islands of the Caribbean including Jamaica, Bonaire, Trinidad & Tobago.  Britain also interned Jews who were caught trying to enter Palestine in camps in Palestine, Cyprus, and Mauritius.
The British were proud to claim 'The Sun Never Sets On The British Empire'. It can also be claimed that in those times 'The Sun Never Set On Jews Interned By The British Empire'.
